Welcome to my Village!
I’m so glad you have joined me here in my little village of health and happiness. My passion is to eat whole, real foods that are not genetically modified (GMOs) and not full of antibiotics, preservatives or hormones. It is easier than you think and I will share what I have learned and show you how you can get started and maintain this lifestyle too.
Let me tell you a little bit about myself and why I started this blog.
If you are like me and suffer from CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) you know how it feels to be dead tired and exhausted all the time. And yet not be able to sleep at night. It is a frustrating feeling and can lead to depression and anxiety, weight gain or loss and a feeling of isolation from family and friends who just don’t get it.
I was diagnosed with CFS in the mid ’80s and was not one of the fortunate ones to have it go away after a few months or even a few years. It has improved but only after extensive research and study into a healthier lifestyle. Most days now it does not bother me but I still have my “days” of complete exhaustion and/or depression. I don’t know if I’m depressed because I’m tired or tired because I’m depressed. Does it really matter, the results are the same.
I was always getting bronchitis every year and sometimes more then once a year. About three years ago I was also diagnosed with high blood pressure and put on medication. I one of those people who do not like to take medications. When I was young my dad would tell me about the fasting’s he and his brother use to do and in general we ate fairly healthy. So I decided to do some research into using diet and food to lower my blood pressure and loss some weight.
Over the years of eating processed foods I had gained about 30 pounds more then I wanted too. I tried Weight Watchers but it did not appeal to me. I am more of a “number of servings” person then trying to figure out their point system for my recipes. Even though I’m a “math person”. So I kept looking. I knew there had to be a food plan out there to meet my needs, both in the time I had to invest and for the way my brain works.
My research led me to the DASH (Dietary Approach to Stopping Hypertension) Eating Plan. I like what I learned and started applying the principles to my diet. Within a couple of months my blood pressure started to drop and so did my weight, surprising my doctor who I had told I could fix it with diet and not pills.
More research lead me to the nutritional program at The Institute of Transformational Nutrition and became a Certified Transformational Nutrition Coach. Through this program I have tweaked my eating plan even further to meet my personal requirements. This allowed me to lose the last stubborn 10 pounds and my blood pressure is back to being 120/80 and has been there for two years.
Best to you in health and happiness,
