Let me tell you a little bit about myself and why I started this blog.
I was born and raised in a small farming town in the Central Valley of California. We lived on fifteen acres of almonds and my dad leased several plot of farmland that ranged anywhere from 60 to 100 acres. Where he grew different vegetable crops and feed crops. On our home property we raised our own beef, had milk cows, pigs, and sometimes chickens and rabbits.
Besides the animals and the almond crop, we also had a vegetable garden and a huge hay stack that we would get into trouble if we were caught climbing on it. Key words here “if we were caught”. Our cats (all outside farm cats) loved the small spaces between the bales of hay to have their kittens. Made it really tough to get to them. I always had scratches on my fore arms trying to get the kittens out to tame them. I won the battle though, even if I did look like I had been through the war.
Anyway, back to the reason I started this blog. As you can tell we eat home grown meat and vegetables as I was going up, and very little processed food. About the only processed food I can remember is white bread. Ya, that wonder stuff that we thought was fantastic. Even though my dad worked all the hours that he did we still eat breakfast and dinner as a family and lunch on the week-ends and summer when school was out. If dad was out in the fields we would take lunch out to him and eat as a family in the field. I loved my childhood.
Problem was as I grew older, got married and went to work, more processed food were being marketed and we all thought hooray for the convenience that they offered. Unfortunately, we did not know the damage we were doing to our health. In the mid-1980’s I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. At that time it was just starting to be recognized as a disease. Fortunately for me, my doctor was one of the first doctors to recognize it. During those early years I was totally miserable. I was exhausted ALL the time. I was still able to work but just barely. Somehow, I managed to work and go to college at night. How? I don’t know. Just my Irish stubbornness I guess. I’m sure I did not help my health any by pushing myself like that, but that was how I was raised. I was at the point of taking up to three 2cc shots of Vitamin B-12 weekly plus handfuls of vitamins and minerals and sleeping every spare minute.
Over the years I have studied Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and nutrition. I have gone back to eating whole foods and not processed, sugar laden, artificial flavored and colored foods. It has not been an easy journey and I still have bouts of fatigue but I will not go back to the “convenient” way of eating. So to bring you to why I started this blog. It is to help you get back your energy and stamina, to give you energy producing recipes and natural skin care to eliminate those toxins found in commercially produced ones. And to save you the years it took me to come to this place.
I hope you enjoy what I have to offer and please share your experience with Chronic Fatigue. I would love to hear what you have discovered on your journey.
